Lara's class

I decided to go to Lara's class on Monday (www.trapezius.net). I haven't been for months. The drive is awful and there were too many people so I didn't get enough attention to make it worth my time and expense. She changed things to split the beginners out to Wednesdays and just the intermediate / advanced students on Monday. I'm increasingly finding that I mostly teach when I'm at the KDC. I also rarely have contact with people who can give me good feedback so I decided to make the trek to Seattle.

I left at 5:45 and I pulled up at her space in Magnuson park at 6:55. An hour and ten minutes in traffic totally sucks.

Once I was there, I was pretty happy to see old friends. There were nine of us and it was fun to see how much people have improved. I was particularly surprised by how much weight Alyssa has lost. She looks great and her performing ability has increased quite a bit.

I learned one new descent (the tick tock), but got some good feedback from Lara about my routine. I've learned pretty much all of the tricks that she knows, but Lara still gives me good feedback about how to make things look better. It's also nice to be around a bunch of people who are at a similar level to you. It gave me a good chance to recruit people to perform in the aerial show on Saturday.

Unitard

I'm now the proud owner of a unitard. It will make its public debut at my aerial show this Saturday at the Kirkland Dance Center.

Honestly, I thought I would have been more likely to cut off an ear than own or wear a unitard, but I decided to try and get some more aerial appropriate clothing. I'm tired of having my pants ripped off while performing and getting the "circus wedgie." The material is also much more suited to aerial than my Old Navy cotton sweat pants.

Bev Sobelman custom designed the thing for me and did an amazing job of not making me looking like ten pounds of potatoes in a five pound bag. Her web site is at:

I thought her price was shockingly low for what you get.

KDC Aerial Show this Saturday

I'm putting together a little Kirkland Dance Center aerial show this Saturday at 6pm. I'm performing and so is Jenn Wrenn, Vivian, Jocelyn, and Heather. I'm going to Lara's class to put my routine together. It's kind of funny, but I don't get very much time to work on my own stuff at the KDC. I spend most of my time teaching. Lara has split the beginners out of her Monday night class so I'm hoping to get some feedback tonight to help my routine.

Let me know if you are interested in going to the show and I can add you to the evite.

Moisture Festival

I organized a group of nineteen to go see a Moisture Festival show on Saturday. It was a burlesque show at the ACT theatre. Most of the Moisture Festival shows are at Hale's Ales in Fremont, but the three burlesque shows were at the ACT theatre this year. The venue was great and the show was amazing. Assigned seating is soooo much nicer than showing up an hour in advance to get a folding chair near the front of a flat seating arrangement.

There were three aerial acts: Esther, the Aerialistas, and Tamara the Trapeze Lady. The Aerialistas stole the show (which isn't unusual), but there routine was the most polished act I have ever seen them do. Their timing was really spot on and the costumes (flourescent bikinis with bell bottom leggings) were Bond girl outstanding. Esther did a great job as well and dissapeared into a performance as a jilted lover on the fabric. I had never seen Tamara perform. She's a fun performer, but her performance was anti-climatic after the Aerialista number. More schtick than an aerial performance.

The other acts were surprisingly good. There were only two that I would have pulled which is great for a variety show. There was definitely more skin displayed than I expected (a good thing). Everyone liked it a lot. Moisture Festival continues next weekend. If you are interested in going, buy your tickets now. It is getting really popular and the shows are selling out days in advance.

Back to life

Long time... no update. Penny is now working on the spaces team as a usability engineer. I have been wanting to get back into blogging so this seems like a good reason to start.
